Fremont Library to Offer Annual Writing Series

Fremont Public Library in Mundelein will offer a series of free writing workshops in April and May. These free seminars are part of Inside Writing & Publishing, a series of workshops sponsored each spring by Fremont Library and four other area libraries.

"The Gift of Story: Capturing and Preserving Family Memories," Saturday, April 11, 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Discover easy ways to capture family memories in this interactive workshop. Candace Thompson, author of the award-winning family saga "Still Having Fun, a Portrait of a Military Marriage," shares family traditions and habits for documenting everyday life, such as special event letters and a memory jar. Leave this workshop with concrete ideas and resources for engaging your entire family.

"The 10 Secrets to Getting your Book Successfully Published!"Saturday, May 2, 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Literary agent Joseph Durepos and national best-selling author Bret Nicholaus have a true passion for helping would-be authors understand what works and what doesn't in the book industry. They will share insightful publishing knowledge while providing a rare opportunity to learn from a literary agent and author at the same time. Nicholaus has written 26 books, including two national best sellers. Durepos has sold more than 150 titles as a literary agent and currently serves as acquisitions editor for Loyola Press.

"Thinking like a Mystery Writer,"Saturday, May 16, 10:00-11:00 a.m.This PowerPoint-type presentation with colorful photos and graphics explains how novelists think and how mystery writers follow or deviate from that thinking. The talk is full of examples from well-known mystery novels. Barbara Gregorich is an award-winning author of fiction, nonfiction and children's books. Her latest book is the "Guide to Writing the Mystery Novel: Lots of Examples, Plus Dead Bodies."
