Learn how to start a business at Bartlett library program series

Tired of investing your time in somebody else's dream? Ready to be your own boss? Investigate the ins and outs of starting a business at the Start Up, Smart Up five-program series scheduled at the Bartlett Public Library, 800 S. Bartlett Road. Presented in cooperation with the Bartlett Chamber of Commerce, this step-by-step series will walk participants through the legal, financial and emotional aspects of starting a business. Learn from local business owners just what it takes to get a business up and running and how to take charge of your own life.

Program 1: The Starting Line, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 17. What business should I start? Which questions should I be asking? How do I tell my spouse? Will it all be worth it? Local business owner Kelly Hronek will answer all of these questions and more.

Program 2: Legal Issues from "A to Z", 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31. Understand how legal matters may affect you and your business. From the "A" of agreements to the "Z" of zoning, cut through the legal jargon and recognize how it translates to real life issues. Join local Attorney Aaron Reinke to learn how effective legal planning can help place the focus on running your business.

Program 3: Business Taxes and Entities, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21. What is an entity? Which one should I choose? Can I get a tax write off on my gas bill? What if I have losses during the year? Will I get a larger tax return? Certified CPA Mark Mirsky provides answers to these and other pressing business and finance questions.

Program 4: Permits, Applications and Paperwork - Oh My!, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12. You're making progress! You've got your business in the works. You've made some decisions and are ready to get started. Just remember to let the government know. In this session, Paula Schumacher and Tony Fradin from the Village of Bartlett discuss the paperwork involved in establishing a business on a local, state and federal level.

Program 5: Making the Decision, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 26. Ready to get started? Still have questions? We're here to help! Learn what it's like to be in business for yourself and pick the minds of our local experts in this wrap-up to the entrepreneurial business series co-sponsored by the library and chamber. Speakers will be on hand to talk about their experiences and to help participants decide how and when to forge their own path.

This five-part Smart Up, Start Up Series will be held in the Bartlett Public Library's Meeting Room.
