Waukegan edges Vernon Hills

Waukegan scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to an 8-4 win over Vernon Hills in the season opener for both baseball teams Monday.

Vernon Hills open the scoring in the top of the first when Joey Marras (1-for-1) singled home Connor McNamara. After the Bulldogs took the lead in their half of the inning, they never looked back.

Sam Perlin homered and drove in 2 runs for Vernon Hills. Perlin, McNamara, Jack Duffley and Drew Winegardner (triple) all were 1-for-3 for the Cougars.
