St. Charles St. Pat's parade draws thousands

Crowds converged on downtown St. Charles for the city's annual St. Patrick's Day parade Saturday.

Irish dancers and musicians, school groups, bands, service clubs and an array of floats all were part of the festivities.

Dennis Nicklaus of Batavia donned a big green hat and even greener pipe to watch the parade with his wife Sherry and daughter Athena, 19. He said that one of the reasons they came was Saturday's beautiful weather, but they also came for the music, he said, adding “I love the bagpipes.”

Amanda O'Brien, 16, of Lombard, and her twin sister, Cassie, dressed in green from head to toe. They said they attended last year's parade and enjoyed it. “I liked it, so we came back again,” Amanda said.

St. Charles Kiwanis served as grand marshals, both walking and riding on a professional float.
