Indianapolis preschool scholarship program becomes law

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard has signed city's Preschool Scholarship Program into law and it has begun accepting applications for the 2015-2016 school year.

Marion County families can now fill out a single application for both the preschool grant and the state's On My Way Pre-K program. The programs help provide children from low-income families with quality preschool.

Families eligible for the city's grant must live in Marion County, have an income below 185 percent of the federal poverty level and the child must be at least 3 but younger than 5 by Aug. 1.

Applications are due by April 30. If the number of qualifying families exceeds the grants available, a lottery in May will determine grant winners.
