Pedestrian bridge planned near forest preserve in Rosemont

Rosemont and the Forest Preserve District of Cook County are planning to install a pedestrian bridge over the Des Plaines River to connect Bryn Mawr Road to the Des Plaines River Trail.

The village plans to pay for the bridge, which is estimated to cost less than $1 million. It would start where Bryn Mawr Road now dead ends, behind the Hyatt Regency O'Hare, and go through the Catherine Chevalier Woods to the river trail.

Mayor Brad Stephens said the bridge could be used as part of a route for charity running events that are planned to begin and end at the village's MB Financial Park entertainment district.

The village board was scheduled this week to take a vote on an agreement with the forest preserve district that would pave the way for the bridge construction to begin, but delayed action since the contract is still being finalized by forest preserve officials.
