Kirk Players to stage 'Sherlock Holmes and the Jersey Lily' March 27-29

Kirk Players will present "Sherlock Holmes and the Jersey Lily" by Katie Forgette for the troupe's spring show at the Mundelein High School theater.

Performances open Friday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m., and continue at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, and at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, March 29.

"From the beginning, I was fascinated with this script, and once I began reading it I couldn't put it down. I caught myself laughing out loud countless times," said Paddy Lynn, artistic director for the troupe and director of the show.

The playwright's concoction for the mystery-comedy revolves around combining the sly wittiness of the master sleuth, Sherlock Holmes, played by Fred Vipond, with the flamboyant charm of the legendary Irish playwright, Oscar Wilde, played by Jon L. Lynn. Add in the famous, beguiling actress Lily Langtry, played by Amanda Villarreal, whose well-known indiscretions are brought to life in graphic letters to the Crown Prince, now in the hands of the ever-infamous Professor Moriarty, played by Dominick Basso.

"Mix in several other memorable characters and you've got a fascinating mystery-comedy," Paddy Lynn added.

Rounding out the cast is Gretchen Grassl as Mrs. Tory, Mike Lieberman as Dr. Watson, Dave Kennebeck as Abdul Karim and Patrick Blake as Smythe.

The assistant director is Sheila Bourque, while Gary Gunther is technical director, Amy Sharer is stage manager and Peter Grassl is assistant stage manager.

"We are pulling out all the stoppers on the technical side of the show, too. Our patrons will be most intrigued with some splendid new twists designed to pull them into the story from the very beginning," Paddy Lynn said. Brenda Sparks is set designer, James Torbeck is sound design, Cortney Chene is costume mistress, Susie Hill is props mistress, and Justin Sanchack is lighting design. Martin Hill provides special effects.
