Rosemont bans overnight parking to prevent airport travelers from leaving cars

Rosemont is banning overnight parking in village-owned lots to prevent drivers from leaving their cars behind when flying out of nearby O'Hare International Airport.

Those who leave their cars overnight in any of the three village-owned parking garages, as well as surface lots at the Allstate Arena, Rosemont Theatre, Ballpark at Rosemont and MB Financial Park, will be subject to a $100 fine. Vehicles may even be towed if there is an event at one of the venues, said Village Attorney Peter Coblentz.

The village board Wednesday approved an ordinance putting the overnight parking ban into place. Signage will be installed in the lots informing drivers of the new rules.

Mayor Brad Stephens said a number of snow and dust-covered cars have been parked in a village-owned garage near Devon Avenue and River Road, between village hall and the Hyatt Rosemont.

"It's becoming a little more cumbersome as we go day to day," Stephens said.
