Two Wonder Lake residents have been arrested and charged after sheriff's deputies found about $500 worth of drugs in their car, police said Tuesday.

Ciara M. Niemeyer, 19, and Marquis J. Wimberly, 18, were both charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 3 felony, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a Class 2 felony, according to a news release.

The McHenry County Sheriff's office arrested Wimberly and Niemeyer on Monday. Deputies had stopped their vehicle near the intersection of Route 47 and Route 120, and conducted a search of the vehicle.

They found a digital scale, 16 Xanax tablets, 14 Temazepam tablets and 20 capsules containing an unknown substance. The narcotics' estimated street value was $500.

They are scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
