Fremd gives championship welcome home to runners up

Fremd High School's girls basketball squad may have come up just short in their quest for a state title, but the Vikings were greeted like champions nonetheless Tuesday at a schoolwide assembly.

Fellow students welcomed team members with applause and high-fives during the event, which featured the players presenting school officials with their runners up trophy.

"The assembly was amazing." player Emily Bieda said.

The team lost Saturday's state championship game to Benet Academy 61-39, but finished the season with a stellar 29-5 record and Mid Suburban League crown.
