Dog walker in critical condition after being hit by car

Woman, 58, in critical condition

A 58-year-old woman was in critical condition after being struck by a car early Monday morning while walking a dog at the intersection of Grove Street and Kaspar Avenue in Arlington Heights, police said.

Arlington Heights police Capt. Andrew Whowell said Monday afternoon that the woman, whose name police are withholding, was in the surgical intensive care unit of Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Police said the woman was crossing Grove Street when a 2012 Volkswagen GTI traveling west on Grove struck her shortly before 6:55 a.m. The car's driver, a 16-year-old boy, has not been charged as police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash, Whowell said.

The preliminary investigation did not reveal any reason to suspect the driver was intoxicated or impaired, he said.

The driver was not injured and there were no passengers in his vehicle.

The dog the woman was walking was not injured, Whowell added.
