ECC marks Women's History Month

Elgin Community College will host a series of events this month featuring speakers and performances celebrating Women's History Month.

All events are free and open to the public, and will be held at ECC's Spartan Drive Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Among the highlights is a round-table discussion featuring women immigrants from ECC and the community telling their stories of coming to the United States, the struggles they face, and hopes that helped them endure. The "Generation FF (First Generation of Female Immigrants): Challenges, Hopes, Perspectives" is 12:30 to 2 p.m. March 18 in the Building B Community Room (Room B181).

On March 19, Morgan McCoy will portray 12 different inspirational characters sharing their rich history, stories of love and moments of sorrow in "Soup N' Stories featuring Evolution of a Black Girl." The program begins at 11 a.m. in the Building G Spartan Auditorium.

An inspirational tea on March 31 will feature spoken word artist Kyla Lacy performing on her real life experiences of triumph and tragedy. It will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Building B Community Room.

The activities are presented by the college's Women's History Month Committee, African American Women's Subcommittee, Student Life Department, Global and International Studies Taskforce, and the Organization of Latin American Students.
