Get to know your school board candidates March 16

The community is invited to a public forum to learn more about the Geneva Unit District 304 school board candidates. Hosted by the Geneva High student council, the forum will give students and the public an opportunity to ask questions and find out where candidates stand on the issues.

It will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, March 16, at Williamsburg Elementary School, 1812 Williamsburg Ave., Geneva.

Daily Herald columnist Dave Heun will moderate the forum. "In addition to having the chance to ask questions, it also is important for students to get to know these people," Heun said. "School board members are essentially volunteers from your community who want to see the schools and students thrive. It calls for a major commitment, one that delivers a positive message to young people regardless of where a candidate stands on issues."

Three seats on the seven-member school board will be filled at the April 7, 2015 consolidated election.

Candidates include incumbents Michael T. McCormick, Kelly B. Nowak, and Mary Stith and newcomers Taylor R. Egan, Ann E. Murtaugh, Evelyn Schneider, and Tina B. Yagla. All seven candidates have been invited to participate in the forum.

The Geneva High student council encourages all Geneva residents, parents, and students to attend the forum and participate.

If you have any questions about the forum, contact communications coordinator Kristy Poteete-Kriegermeier at kkriegermeier@geneva304.org or (630) 463-3011.
