Freeport High School greenhouse project seeks boost

FREEPORT, Ill. (AP) - A high school in northern Illinois is seeking help to complete a greenhouse for its agriculture students.

The (Freeport) Journal-Standard reports (http://bit.ly/1F5WAic) the project at Freeport High School has $30,000 in grants and donations. But agriculture teacher Monica Pierce says donations of skilled labor are needed from construction, electrical and plumbing contractors.

The school would allow benefactors to advertise on fencing around the planned garden and greenhouse.

The agriculture program currently uses an off-campus greenhouse shared with a church cooperative.

The agriculture program won a contest that came with a $10,000 grant. Archer Daniels Midland Co. gave another $10,000. Pioneer Seed Co. donated $3,000.
