Family of man killed by Chicago police sues the city

CHICAGO (AP) - The family of a 19-year-old man who was fatally shot by Chicago police last summer has filed a federal lawsuit alleging the victim wasn't armed when he was shot as police officials have said.

The wrongful death lawsuit filed Wednesday on behalf of Roshad McIntosh's 3-year-old son against the city of Chicago and unnamed officers alleges McIntosh's death was the result of the city's failure to adequately train, supervise and discipline officers who shoot civilians.

The complaint also alleges that the department's unconstitutional policies and practices have resulted in "unjustified shooting deaths" of McIntosh and other black men.

A police spokesman did not immediately respond for comment, but the department has said McIntosh was shot after he pointed a gun at officers. They have also said they recovered the weapon.
