How and why?The Old Orchard Country Club is underperforming. I recently began a marketing committee to look at the facilities and explore more ways to generate revenue. Is there any additional open space the park district needs to acquire? Please describe.No. We are now examining some land we own for better ways of using them. Are there any unmet recreational needs? If yes, what are they and how would you propose paying for them? Or, should they wait until the economy improves? Our facilities are old and are in need of replacement or repair. As a former commissioner of the Arlington Heights Park District, I look at the parks in that district and want the same as theirs. But at this time, we can't afford them.Would you support sharing/pooling resources (i.e. printing, vehicles) with other local governments (school districts, village, etc.)? If so, what areas would you consider combining or merging to save money or improve efficiency?Yes, but such sharing is not easy to accomplish. If you are a newcomer, what prompted you to run for the park board? If you're an incumbent, list your accomplishments or key initiatives in which you played a leadership role.I've been on this Board for a little over a year. I've done more listening and learning than taking a leadership role. Groups don't like newcomers to come in with preconceived ideas. I did form the marketing committee and that has great opportunity for solving many of our problems. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office? It is important because of the inexperience of our Board that we learn to work together. My fellow commissioners are very bright people and really care about the park district. That's why I support the retention of the present board. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.John KasichWhat's the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?To persevereIf life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Reaching out to help more peopleWhat was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Journalism...my first jobs were in writing and editing...which led to a very successful and fun career. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?To read the Bible and come closer to God.
