What changes, if any, do you think need to be made? While I feel the School Board has done a good job trying to prepare our district, I do believe there are still changes to be made so children have all the tools needed to be successful throughout their learning careers. More technology, advanced learning opportunities and more help for children who are falling behind are all things that constantly need to be re-evaluated to stay ahead and competitive. What budgetary issues will your district have to confront during the next four years and what measures do you support to address them? If you believe cuts are necessary, be specific about programs and expenses that should be considered for reduction or elimination. On the income side, do you support any tax increases for local schools? Again, be specific. The state of Illinois is behind in paying bills and, like within any school district, budgets are tight. My goal is to keep the budget as sustainable as possible without making cuts. I do support tax increases for local schools, but do not take it lightly. I feel the more sustainable a school district is, the more attractive it is for families to move to the area. This helps to increase property values for the tax payers within the community. Are you currently employed by or retired from a school district, if so, which one? Is any member of your direct family - spouse, child or child-in-law - employed by the school district where you are seeking a school board seat?NoAs contract talks come up with various school employee groups -- teachers, support staff, etc. -- what posture should the school board take? Do you believe the district should ask for concessions from its employees, expect employee costs to stay about the same as they are now or provide increases in pay or benefits?I believe that the school board should take all factors into consideration when contract talks arise and determine the best course of action based on the information they have at hand.If your district had a superintendent or other administrator nearing retirement, would you support a substantial increase in his or her pay to help boost pension benefits? Why or why not?To my knowledge, we do not have this situation in our district, therefore it doesn't apply. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?I would like to work together with the families within our district to come up with new ways to improve our district as a whole and the education our children receive. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Marissa Mayer, CEO of Yahoo! What's the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Being responsible for my actions. If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Learning more about my grandparents who are not with me anymore. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?English was always my favorite subject throughout school. I now utilize communication every day in my career as a public relations consultant. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Think before you speak. Once you say something, you can never take those words back.
