Bond set for suburban man who forced school lockdown

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (AP) - Bond is set at $125,000 for a suburban Chicago man accused of smashing car windows at an elementary school, forcing a temporary school lockdown.

Kirk Waishwell of LaGrange is charged with five counts of felony criminal damage to property.

Authorities say the 38-year-old Waishwell used a metal pipe Feb. 9 to smash windows on 12 cars in the parking lot of Kensington Elementary School. The school was locked down until after his arrest by Cook County Sheriff's police.

Officials say Waishwell has a history of complaints against him from the community for his behavior near LaGrange schools. He will be placed on electronic home monitoring if released on bond.

A police investigation determined the cost of the damage done to the cars totaled more than $6,600.
