Rolling Meadows man killed in Colorado skiing accident

FRISCO, Colo. - Authorities say a 45-year-old man died while skiing at Breckenridge, marking the second on-mountain death at the resort in four days.

Summit County Coroner Regan Wood says Krzysztof Kostelic of Rolling Meadows died Thursday morning while skiing an intermediate run. He was wearing a helmet, and Wood says he might have had a medical issue that caused him to crash into a tree.

A statement from Breckenridge Ski Resort says ski patrol provided advanced life support and transported Kostelic to Breckenridge Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

"Breckenridge Ski Patrol, the Breckenridge Ski Resort community and the Vail Resorts family extend their deepest sympathy and support to the family and friends of the man," the statement said.

The Summit Daily reports Kostelic's death comes three days after a 22-year-old University of Colorado student died after skiing expert terrain at the mountain.
