Maria Sharapova withdraws because of stomach virus
ACAPULCO, Mexico (AP) - Top-seeded Maria Sharapova of Russia withdrew Friday before her Mexico Open semifinal against Caroline Garcia of France because of a stomach virus.
The third-seeded Garcia will face fifth-seeded Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland in the hard-court final at The Fairmont Acapulco Princess. Bacsinszky beat Bulgaria's Sesil Karatantcheva 6-2, 6-4.
In the men's semifinals, top-seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan beat fourth-seeded Kevin Anderson of South Africa 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, and second-seeded David Ferrer of Spain topped Ryan Harrison of the United States 4-6, 6-0, 6-0.
