Mayoral candidates agree to 3 debates ahead of runoff

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and challenger Cook County Commissioner Jesus Garcia have agreed to three televised debates ahead of the April runoff election.

Emanuel is seeking a second term, but wasn't able to capture an outright majority during the election earlier this week. The former White House chief of staff faces a runoff with Garcia on April 7.

The debates include one on March 16, which will be hosted by WMAQ-TV. There's also one on March 31, moderated by WTTW-TV. A third debate will be hosted by Chicago's WFLD-TV, but the date hasn't been set yet.

All five mayoral candidates on the ballot in this week's contest participated in five debates. Several of the candidates also participated in multiple community forums.
