Naperville restaurant that replaced Connie's Pizza closes
The restaurant that replaced the long-standing Connie's Pizza in Naperville didn't last long and now the building is up for sale or lease.
MB Urban Roadhouse opened Sept. 1 at Ogden and Iroquois avenues on the city's north side, and less than six months later it was closed.
The business had been renting the space at 1170 Iroquois Ave. since Connie's Pizza closed earlier last year, said Brian Butler of The Butler Group, a commercial real estate brokerage based in Clarendon Hills.
MB Urban Roadhouse offered a fusion of Italian and Jewish cuisines with a menu that focused on pizzas, oven-toasted sandwiches and salads.
Owners Mike and Jody Cannistra opened the restaurant as an expansion of the bagel business they had been running at the Mount Prospect farmers market.
Shortly after opening, Mike Cannistra said he knew it would be a challenge to take over the spot Connie's held for more than 30 years.
“We know that we're replacing a Chicago icon brand in Connie's Pizza at this location,” Cannistra said last September. “We're going to win each customer one at a time each day.”
By late January, the building's owners put it on the market, Butler said. The asking price is $1.3 million for the 8,200-square-foot restaurant, which includes a loft, and the rent is negotiable.
