Lotus names Spanish woman Carmen Jorda development driver

MONTMELO, Spain (AP) - Lotus has named Carmen Jorda as its Formula One development driver.

Lotus says the Spaniard will be "put through her paces thanks to a comprehensive fitness regime to prepare for the opportunity" to drive its car.

Jorda says "I've been racing since I was 10 years old so it was my dream to drive a Formula One car since I was very young."

Williams test driver Susie Wolff drove during last week's tests at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit.

Italian driver Lella Lombardi was the last woman to race in F1 in 1976.
