Jaguars release veteran cornerback Will Blackmon

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - The Jacksonville Jaguars have released veteran cornerback Will Blackmon, giving younger players more opportunity at the position.

Blackmon played in eight games last season, starting three, before a finger injury that landed him on injured reserve. He finished with 28 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.

Blackmon has played eight years in the league, spending time with Green Bay, the New York Giants and Seattle. He played well enough during his two years in Jacksonville to likely find another job relatively quickly. He's eligible to sign with any team now.

The Jaguars have three young cornerbacks who are expected to be mainstays at the position - Dwayne Gratz, Demetrius McCray and Aaron Colvin.
