Bulls' Rose to have knee surgery Friday

Bulls guard Derrick Rose is scheduled to have a meniscectomy Friday morning to repair a medial meniscus tear in his right knee, the team announced in a statement.

Team physician Dr. Brian Cole will perform the surgery. A timetable for Rose's return will be determined after tomorrow's procedure.

Rose suffered a cartilage tear in his right knee last season and had surgery on Nov. 25, 2013. Coach Tom Thibodeau said Wednesday this is essentially the same injury that needs to be repaired again.

Rose played 33 minutes on Monday against Milwaukee but didn't suffer any obvious recurrence of the injury. He had an MRI on Tuesday, which revealed the need for another surgery.

The Bulls are hopeful there's a chance Rose could return before the end of the season.
