McGlone having big freshman year at Winona

Streamwood alum Hannah McGlone picked the perfect time to have a career night.

McGlone, a freshman, poured in a college career-high 19 points to help the Winona State women's basketball team record a 67-62 victory over University of Mary in the first round of the NSIC tournament.

McGlone shot 7 of 12 from the field and added 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.

She also had 10 points and 4 rebounds in a recent loss to Augustana (S.D.) and had 12 points and 11 rebounds in a 69-56 victory over Wayne State.

After the University of Mary win, McGlone was averaging 6.1 points and 5.5 rebounds (second-best on the team) per game, while shooting .500 from the field and .727 from the free-throw line. She also has 15 steals and 13 blocks. Winona State was 20-7 overall after the playoff win.

Brown at North Dakota State: Elgin High product Kory Brown is the third-leading scorer on the North Dakota State men's basketball team.

Brown has started all 26 games this season and is averaging 26.6 minutes of playing time per game. Brown is third in scoring at 9.0 points and also averages 5.0 rebounds. He's shooting .500 from the field and has made 10 three-pointers this season to go with 45 assists, 23 steals and 19 blocks.

In a recent 64-62 win at Western Illinois, Brown had a team-high 17 points to go with 8 rebounds and 4 assists in 38 minutes. He sank 8 of 12 free throws in the game. In a 71-47 victory over South Dakota he had 6 points, a team-high 11 rebounds and 4 assists in 38 minutes of action. In a 57-48 win over IUPUI, he had 8 points, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks in 33 minutes.

North Dakota State was 20-8 overall and 12-3 in conference play through Thursday.

Gulczynski at Wisconsin: Bartlett product Jaci Gulczynski is a senior on the University of Wisconsin Women's basketball team.

Through Thursday, Gulczynski was averaging 9.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. She ranked fourth on the team in scoring. Averaging almost 30 minutes of playing time per game, Gulczynski was shooting .429 from the field, .391 from the 3-point line on 45 of 115 shooting, and .862 from the free-throw line. She also had 43 assists, 27 blocks and 12 steals.

In an 86-83 loss to Northwestern earlier this week, Gulczynski had 19 points and shot 5-for-10 from the 3-point line and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. She added 4 rebounds and 4 assists in 36 minutes.

In an 81-70 loss to Big Ten Conference unbeaten Maryland, Gulczynski had 8 points and 3 rebounds in 32 minutes. In a 70-63 loss to Nebraska she had 15 points (4-for-4 from the 3-point line) and 8 rebounds to go with 4 blocked shots in 31 minutes of action.

She added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in Wisconsin's 87-75 loss to Iowa. In that game, Gulczynski shot 4-for-7 from the 3-point line.

Wisconsin was 8-18 overall and 4-12 in Big Ten action through Thursday.

Williams at Barry: Elgin High graduate Arie Williams is part of the nationally ranked Barry University men's basketball team. Williams has played in 25 games this season (1 start) and is averaging 7.2 points per game in an average of 16.6 minutes of action. He's shooting .403 from the 3-point line (50 of 124) and is one of 4 players on the team to have at least 50 threes. Williams also has 54 assists against only 24 turnovers and 22 steals and is shooting .773 from the free-throw line.

In recent action, Williams had 6 points, 4 assists and 2 steals in an 85-70 win over Ekerd. He made two 3-pointers in that game. Williams also had one 3-pointer, 2 assists and 2 steals in an 86-69 win over Lynn. In a 79-71 overtime triumph against Nova Southeastern, Williams had 6 points (2 threes) and 4 assists.

Palmer at Whitewater: Bartlett graduate Lisa Palmer broke her hand in practice in late January and has missed the remainder of the season for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team.

Palmer, a sophomore forward, was leading the team in rebounding at the time of her injury. She finished the season averaging 7.4 points and a team-high 7.7 rebounds per game. In 17 starts she was shooting .453 from the field and .638 from the free-throw line and had 27 assists, 17 blocks and 14 steals.

Whitewater finished the season 13-13 after losing 66-59 to UW-Oshkosh in the opening round of the WIAC tournament.

Barry was 22-3 and 13-2 in conference play through late week.

Whitaker at UIC: Lance Whitaker, a redshirt freshman guard-forward from Bartlett, has played in 24 games this season for the University of Illinois at Chicago men's basketball team. In an average of 16.8 minutes per game, Whitaker is averaging 2.7 points and 1.7 rebounds while shooting .618 from the free-throw line. He also has 25 assists and 11 steals. UIC was 7-22 overall through late week.

Egekeze at Belmont: Huntley graduate Amanze Egekeze is a freshman on the Belmont University men's basketball team. In a recent 66-61 win over Eastern Kentucky, Egekeze had 5 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

On the season, he's played in 28 games (19 starts) and is averaging 5.3 points and 2.8 rebounds to go with 22 steals, 17 blocks and 16 assists. Egekeze is shooting .343 from the 3-point line (24-for-70) and .833 from the free-throw line for a Belmont team that was 18-10 overall and 10-5 in conference through Thursday.
