Cahokia man to be sentenced in April for shooting death

CAHOKIA, Ill. (AP) - A Cahokia man will be sentenced in April after pleading guilty in the fatal shooting of another man last year.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/1woRFtl ) 19-year-old Darran C. Perkins will be sentenced April 1 in St. Clair County court. He pleaded guilty on Feb. 18 in connection with the shooting death of Sharmon Johnson. He is accused of shooting Johnson multiple times with a handgun. Johnson suffered gunshot wounds to the neck and torso.

Perkins was initially charged with armed violence, aggravated battery and attempted murder. The charges were amended to first-degree murder when Johnson died of his wounds.
