7 dogs seized from border collie kennel in Tippecanoe County

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Tippecanoe County Animal Control has removed seven dogs from unfit living conditions in a barn belonging to an alleged puppy mill owner.

The dogs are recovering at Crystal Creek Kennel after being seized by animal control officer Seth Kirkendall on Monday. He says the dogs were matted with feces and were apparently neglected.

One of the dogs has an eye problem requiring its removal and another dog has an injured hind leg. All of the dogs had lice and worms, and none of them had been vaccinated, which is required by state law.

The border collie kennel from which the dogs were taken was shut down in August after the owner failed to properly ventilate it.

Kirkendall says he plans to forward the case to the prosecutor's office for review.
