Area under lake effect snow warning until 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning for the area that will last until 6 p.m.

An additional 1-3 inches of snow could fall today, according to the weather service. Snow totals will vary considerably due to the lake effect nature of the storm.

Between 4-8 inches of snow has fallen since Wednesday afternoon, the weather service says.

The high this afternoon will climb to 14 degrees.

Lows tonight should be around 1, with wind chills as low as 8 below zero.
