MCC student killed in crash with commuter train

A Woodstock woman was killed Wednesday night when a Metra train collided with her vehicle on a snow-covered crossing, according to police and the McHenry County coroner.

The coroner's office identified the woman as Amanda L. Williams, 19, a student at McHenry County College who played on the volleyball team.

Williams, formerly of Belvidere, was the only person in the car at the time of the accident, which took place at the southeastern border of Woodstock on Lily Pond Road, about one-half mile north of Route 14, police said.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy was conducted Thursday, Coroner Anne Majewski said in a news release.

Williams was southbound on Lily Pond Road when her 2003 Toyota Camry went on to the tracks. Officials said about two inches of snow had accumulated and conditions were also icy. The railroad crossing sits on a small incline and curve.

An inbound train on the Union Pacific Northwest Line struck the car just before 5 p.m. The crossing signals and gates were operating properly at the time, according to a police report.
