Report: Former McHenry County coroner indicted

Former McHenry County Coroner Marlene Lantz was indicted Thursday on allegations she never disposed of the remains of a baby that recently were discovered in the coroner's office, the Northwest Herald reported.

According to the report, the grand jury voted to indict Lantz on two counts of official misconduct and one count of forgery. The indictment alleges that between March 13, 1992, and Nov. 30, 2012, when Lantz left office, she failed to dispose of the body of “Baby Reinert,” also known as “Baby Doe,” the report said.

The indictment also alleges Lantz signed a death certificate saying the baby was buried and that the identity of the mother was unknown, and she did so knowing such information was false, according to the newspaper report.
