March 10: Seventh Annual 'Empty Bowls' fundraiser at CLC to fight hunger

Students studying ceramic art and food preparation are teaming up again to fight hunger in the Sixth Annual Empty Bowls fundraiser, to be held at the College of Lake County Main Lobby, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10. Proceeds will benefit the Northern Illinois Food Bank (www.northernilfoodbank.org).

For a minimum donation of $15 per bowl, plate or cup, event attendees can select a piece of handmade pottery and receive a serving of chili and cornbread. Students and faculty from the ceramics department have created more than 1,000 pieces for the event, and the CLC Hospitality and Culinary Management program is preparing the chili and corn bread.

Last year the Empty Bowls event raised $6,250 for the Northern Illinois Food Bank. "Overall, we've been able to donate $30,000 to fight hunger in Lake County," according to Ben Bates, ceramics instructor and event organizer.
