Polls close across Chicago as voters decide in mayor's race
CHICAGO (AP) - Most polling places across Chicago are closing as residents decide whether to give Mayor Rahm Emanuel a second term.
Chicago Board of Election Commissioners spokesman James Allen says four precincts will remain open one hour later Tuesday - until 8 p.m. - because they opened late.
Some ballots could be cast after 7 p.m. Election officials say those in line by the polls' close at 7 p.m. get to vote.
Turnout has been light. Election officials predict it'll be lower than 2011 when 42 percent of eligible voters turned out.
Emanuel hopes to avoid a runoff election. He needs more than 50 percent to win re-election outright in the nonpartisan race. His four challengers are Cook County Commissioner Jesus Garcia, Alderman Bob Fioretti, businessman Willie Wilson and candidate William Walls.
