Madison takes control against Harper

The Harper women's basketball team is quite used to players getting big minutes, with only six active players on the roster.

So Hawks coach Jenny Turpel was planning to use her five starters for the full 40 minutes - until Kim Herzog committed her fifth foul with 2:48 left.

By that time, Madison Area Technical College had pretty much taken control on the way to a 69-45 victory in Palatine on Saturday in North Central Community College Conference play.

Madison (20-6, 11-3) had the better of it in the second half, when it outscored the Hawks 43-21.

Harper dropped to 9-19, 3-10 entering next week's Region IV playoffs.

Joslyn Nicholson led Harper with 17 points.

Harper coach Jenny Turpel was mostly pleased with her team's first-half effort, as the Hawks hit halftime trailing just 26-24.

"We were not 'on' offensively," Turpel said. "The first half we were able to combat that with our defense."

Despite shooting 3-for-11 from the floor in the first half, Madison's Sydney Harms went on to lead the Wolfpack with 17 points.
