Gunman robs choir members at Washington Park church

WASHINGTON PARK, Ill. (AP) - Authorities are searching for an armed robbery suspect who stole purses from at least three women attending church choir rehearsal in Washington Park.

Detective James Mister of the Washington Park Police Department tells the Belleville News-Democrat (http://bit.ly/17yw59C ) the robbery happened Wednesday night at Mount Calvary Church of God. He says the suspect displayed a handgun, but no one was injured.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black man with a thin build. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a white handkerchief covering his face and neck area.

Mister says several other people were in the church during the robbery so there could be more victims.

The department is urging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact authorities.
