Bloomington mayor faces possible censure in blogger spat

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) - The City Council in Bloomington will consider censuring Mayor Tari Renner over comments he posted on a local blogger's website, but at least one alderman wants him to resign.

The council will consider censuring Renner in a Friday meeting.

According to The Pantagraph in Bloomington (http://bit.ly/1G89sVJ ), Renner responded to what he perceived to be an attack on his son by blogger Diane Benjamin. Benjamin is the founder of the McLean County Tea Party and a regular critic of the mayor. She included the mayor's college-student son in one of her blog posts.

Renner has since apologized for calling Benjamin, among other things, "garbage."

Alderman Judy Stearns called on the mayor to resign.

Alderman Scott Black believes Renner should keep his job but face some sort of consequences.
