Judge finds man accused of Rock Island fire unfit for trial

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (AP) - A western Illinois judge has found a man accused of setting a fire that that destroyed or damaged buildings in downtown Rock Island unfit to go to trial.

The Rock Island Argus (http://bit.ly/1ExfE8O ) reports 34-year-old Jason Earl Anderson was handcuffed after a Thursday hearing and will be held in the Rock Island County jail. The Sept. 27 blaze destroyed a vacant building that was slated for demolition and damaged several businesses, including a tattoo parlor. Anderson is charged with felony arson and residential arson.

The Illinois Department of Human services will evaluate Anderson and he will be sent to a state facility in Chester or Alton. The judge denied a request from Anderson's attorney that he remain free on bond in his father's care.
