Crystal Lake Elementary Dist. 47 appoints three new principals for 2015-16
The Crystal Lake Elementary District 47 board approved the hiring of several administrators at the Feb. 17 meeting.
Monica Petersen, principal of Jane Addams Elementary School in Palatine, will replace current principal Linda Corteen as the head of Husmann Elementary School. Corteen, who has served as principal of Husmann for the past 11 years and has worked in the district for 32 years, will be retiring at the end of this school year.
Assistant principal Beth Klinsky will become principal of West Elementary School upon the retirement of current principal Marcia Hyma at the end of this school year. Hyma has been principal of West for the past four years and has worked in the district for a total of 25 years.
Petersen has seven years of administrative experience serving as both assistant principal and principal in District 15 in addition to seven years of classroom experience at the elementary level. Klinsky has served in her current role at West for the past two years. Prior to joining District 47, she worked in Prairie Grove District 46 for two years as an assistant principal and 24 years as a teacher.
"The district is excited about the strong talents Mrs. Klinsky and Mrs. Petersen bring to the principalship," said Superintendent Kathy Hinz.
The third change for the district includes the appointment of Matt Grubbs, current Lundahl middle school principal, to the principalship at Coventry Elementary School. Grubbs is excited to expand his leadership experience to the elementary setting next year.
"I am thrilled for this opportunity and I cannot wait to become a part of the Coventry family," he added.
Grubbs will replace current principal Karen Cragg, who will retire at the end of this school year after serving in the district for the past 28 years and as Coventry's principal for the past 14 years. The search to fill the principal vacancy at Lundahl is underway.
All three administrators attended the district's board meeting Tuesday night and will officially start their new roles July 1.
