Firefighters work to put out industrial building fire in Gilberts

Firefighters worked Thursday night to extinguish a fire in an industrial building in Gilberts, authorities said.

Crews from the Rutland-Dundee Fire Protection District and other area departments were dispatched at 8:25 p.m. to the blaze on the 100 block of Industrial Drive, located near Route 72 and the Jane Addams Tollway.

Flames and a giant plume of smoke could be seen coming from the building, where firefighters were trying to attack the blaze from afar with at least two hose lines.

Two business owners in a strip mall on Route 72 said they saw a number of fire trucks, ambulances and squad cars racing down Route 72 and turning onto Industrial Drive. The building fire was near the end of Industrial Drive, home to a number of other factories and businesses.

Rutland-Dundee Fire Protection District officials weren't immediately available to provide additional details Thursday night.
