Learn about Black Hawk's history on March 17

How well do you know Black Hawk, the 19th-century Native American leader who influenced the history of Kane County?

Come to a nature program to learn more about Black Hawk: "Warrior, Patriot and Protector of the Land" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, at Creek Bend Nature Center, within LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve at 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles.

Dave Schoenknecht, a professor at Rockford College, and Valerie Blaine, nature programs manager at Forest Preserve District of Kane County, will lead a discussion based on readings from Black Hawk's 1833 autobiography. They will look at key concepts such as land rights, sustainable living and spiritual connections to land. Attendees will discuss what we can learn today from Black Hawk's words, some 182 years ago.

Advance registration is required. This "Learn From the Experts" program is for those 18 and older. It has a registration fee of $10. Registrants will receive a reading guide to the e-book, prior to the program. Call (630) 444-3190 or email programs@kaneforest.com to register. Visit www.kaneforest.com for more information.
