Anima, Soul Children of Chicago to join in song

Anima, the Glen Ellyn-based children's chorus, will team with Soul Children of Chicago for "Come Together," a concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn.

The concert caps the 2015 "Gospel and Grooves" SingFest, which also includes a day of workshops for area music teachers and choral singers.

Anima will open the "Come Together" concert performing works that include "No Time," an arrangement of two camp meeting songs by Brumfield, and "Stand UP" by Nettles & Bush (of Sugarland).

Then Soul Children will take the stage. Singers who have participated in the day workshops, including members of Evanston Children's Choir, Northern Illinois University Children's Chorus of the Community School of the Arts, the Red Rose Children's Choir of Lake County and the Grande Prairie Children's Choir also will join Anima and Soul Children for renditions of "Total Praise" by Richard Smallwood and "O Sifiuni Mungu," arranged by Soul Children's Walt Whitman.

Each year, participants in Anima's SingFest have the opportunity to join with Anima in a day of workshops and singing that includes separate tracks of activities for teachers and their students, providing the opportunity to learn from established experts in the field. The day ends with a concert open to the public.

Tickets are $38 for adults and $24 for kids 18 and younger. For details, contact (630) 942-4000 or www.atthemac.org.
