Ash Wednesday service comes to COD

Eighty-seven students and faculty members attended a brief Ash Wednesday service in the College of DuPage Student Resource Center to mark the start of Lent.

Deacon Matt Pidgeon of St. James the Apostle Church in Glen Ellyn distributed the ashes in conjunction with COD's Newman Catholic Student Association.

"Being neighbors of COD, we've been asked to come over here and help the students receive ashes today," he said. "We were honored to do that and bring God to these students here at COD on a busy day."

Ashes are used to show repentance and willingness to follow the Gospels, Pidgeon said, and "change their lives and put them more in line with our Lord Jesus Christ."
