'Mr. Marmion' contest to benefit charity

On Friday, Feb. 20, Marmion Academy's student council along with the Leadership Education and Development Program will host a "Mr. Marmion Competition," a mock talent/beauty show, to benefit charity.

Three members from each class will compete in four different events and a panel of faculty and student judges will determine who will win the coveted "Mr. Marmion" crown. Show time is at 7 p.m. at Marmion Academy's Alumni Hall gym, 1000 Butterfield Road in Aurora.

The contestants in this year's Mr. Marmion Competition are: seniors Ben Freda of St. Charles, Evan Pickard of Aurora and Zachary Turnbow of Yorkville; juniors Joseph Duffield of Aurora, James Powers of Leland and Ben Rydecki of Somonauk; sophomores Kyle McCullough of St. Charles, Henry Pierce of Aurora and Brendan Scanlan of Sugar Grove; and freshmen Ryan Conti of Batavia, Seth Groom of Batavia and Olatunji Osobamiro of Aurora.

The proceeds from the event will go to support the St. Baldrick's Foundation as well as "MARMATHON," Marmion's student-led fundraiser. Allison Ortlund, sister of Marmion senior Eric Ortlund, is raising funds through the St. Baldrick's Foundation to support a 3-year-old Batavia resident with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Tickets are $7 each or $5 if purchased in advance. To reserve tickets, call Mark Malkowski at (630) 897-6936, ext. 305.
