Player of the week award for Harper's Gatlin

Entering this season, expectations were high for Harper freshman guard Marcus Gatlin.

At first he struggled to adapt to the college game, but it sure looks like the hard times are over for the 5-foot-9 Chicago Curie product.

On Monday, Gatlin was named NJCAA Region IV, Division III men's basketball player of the week.

In two games last week, the offensive-minded guard shot 14-for-25 from the field while averaging 16 points in a pair of Harper losses. Gatlin also average 2.5 assists and 7.5 rebounds.

The Hawks next travel to Alverno College on Wednesday to play Milwaukee Area Technical College, which has lost two straight to nationally ranked foes. Harper concludes its regular season Saturday with another North Central Community College Conference matchup, this one a home date with Madison Area Technical College.
