Forecasters warn of dangerous cold moving into Illinois

CHICAGO (AP) - Dangerously cold air is blowing across much of Illinois and is expected to push temperatures into single digits by late afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued wind chill advisories for northern and central Illinois starting Saturday evening and lasting until Sunday morning.

The coldest overnight wind chills are forecast for north-central Illinois and could fall to 30 below zero, making frost bite and hypothermia a risk.

Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph are likely.

For central Illinois, the lowest wind chills could hit 20 below, especially north of Interstate 74.

Northern Indiana and parts of Michigan are expected to get as much as 6 to 8 inches of lake-effect snow, but forecasters expect less than an inch for most of northeast and central Illinois.
