Got Valentine's Day plans? Dress for blustery cold tonight

Valentine's Day Scrooges, take heart: bitter cold and blustery conditions should keep all those gushy romantics indoors tonight.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory starting at 8 p.m. for much of the suburbs until Sunday morning. While the low tonight will be around zero, temperatures will feel as cold as if it was 20 to 30 below because "it's so gosh darn windy," said Jamie Enderlen, a meteorologist for the weather service's Romeoville office.

On Saturday morning, winds clocked in at 48 miles per hour out of O'Hare International Airport - the fastest in Cook County, the weather service reported. In DuPage, gusts topped 46 miles per hour in West Chicago.

Tonight, strong winds should hit 40 to 50 miles per hour, forecasters say.

The one-two punch of freezing cold and wind can cause frostbite in 10 to 30 minutes, Enderlen said.

So if you do venture out, be prepared for snow drifting into the road, dress in warm layers and cover exposed skin.
