Illinois township's 19th century records posted online

MUNDELEIN, Ill. (AP) - A township in northern Illinois has started digitally preserving hundreds of pages of old documents and posting them online.

Fremont Township Clerk Christina McCann tells the Daily Herald in Arlington Heights (http://bit.ly/1uFYOnZ ) the goal is to make the records of early settlers more readily available.

Annual town meeting minutes from 1850 to 1961 are now uploaded to a township website. Other documents include Fremont Highway Commissioner records from 1883 to 1906.

McCann says there are still families in the area whose ancestors are mentioned in the records.

The township board has approved $5,000 for the project.
