Peter Pan and Captain Hook are at it again in 'Peter Pan, Jr.' at Woodland Intermediate School
The willowy Peter Pan, played by Amanda Barry, held a sword to the defeated Captain Hook, played by Yu Jin Lee, as the crocodile inched toward him, ticking away, during Thursday's dress rehearsal at Woodland Intermediate School.
The school's drama club is performing Disney's "Peter Pan, Jr." Feb. 19 and 20, with approximately 40 student cast members, 11 crew members, and one student director, all led by co-directors April Cooksey and Andrea Little, teachers at the school.
The 60-minute Disney musical is designed for young performers and is based on the play by J.M. Barrie and the adaptation of the 1953 Disney film.
"This is our after-school drama program. We had over 200 kids audition," said Little, a music and choir teacher. "We have had a lot of fun. The kids have known their lines and their songs really well."
Students danced across the stage singing the classic songs like, "You Can Fly!," "Following the Leader" and "The Second Star to the Right" from the 1953 film.
"It is really, really fun. I always wanted to be this guy (Captain Hook) in the first place. It is awesomely cool," said Lee, a fifth-grader. "Everyone has prepared pretty well. Everyone has their vocal chords ready to go."
The play will be performed Thursday, Feb. 19 and Friday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. at the school, 1115 N. Hunt Club Road in Gurnee. Admission for the performance is $5 for adults while children 12 and under are free.
