Harper enjoys one-sided victory
Over the last three seasons, Harper College women's basketball has been on the short end of lopsided games often enough.
The Hawks were able to turn the tables Wednesday, defeating College of DuPage 75-49 in a North Central Community College Conference matchup in Palatine.
"We played a great game," said Harper's Kim Herzog.
It was the Hawks' largest margin of victory in coach Jenny Turpel's two seasons.
"It was good to seem them come out and play as a team," Turpel said.
The Hawks (9-16, 3-7) were led offensively by Herzog (Buffalo Grove), who finished with 24 points.
"She is capable of having big games," Turpel said.
Joslyn Nicholson had 20 points as DuPage packed in defenders around her, and Lane Winkler contributed 16.
The Hawks' long-range shooters thrived. Herzog and Winkler both had four 3s, and Sara Nelson (9 points) made three.
"Last time we played them, they gave us the three," said Turpel. "We knew they were going to do that again. A lot of people stepped up."
College of DuPage fell to 7-18 and 1-10.
