White Sox lose Campana (knee) for season

In addition to acquiring big-name talent such as Jeff Samardzija, David Robertson, Melky Cabrera and Adam LaRoche this off-season, White Sox general manager Rick Hahn also added plenty of veteran depth.

Emilio Bonifacio was signed to a one-year, $3 million contract (with a $4 million option for 2016) and is the Sox' likely reserve outfielder.

Hahn also signed J.B. Shuck to the 40-man roster and invited outfielders Tony Campana, Jared Mitchell, Michael Taylor and Courtney Hawkins to spring training, which begins next week in Glendale, Ariz.

On Tuesday, the White Sox announced Campana tore his ACL getting ready for camp and is expected to be out for the year.

Campana wasn't expected to make the Sox' season-opening roster, but he was insurance behind Adam Eaton, the starting center fielder who missed 39 games due to injury last season.

In 2014, Campana played in 44 games with the Los Angeles Angels and Arizona Diamondbacks and combined to hit .187.

Campana's best season came in 2012, when hit .264 and stole 30 bases with the Cubs.

White Sox pitchers and catchers report to spring training in Glendale, Ariz., on Feb. 20, with the full squad due in on Feb. 24.
